AIS was recently subcontracted to design a Disaster Recovery System
for Verizon. The system is called Hotbackup for Verizon Naviscore
systems. After 9/11 many companies started looking into ways to make
their computer networks and accompanying systems more secure and
robust against unexpected disasters. The Hotbackup system is the
answer to that challenge. The system works with two servers at two
different geographic locations. First server is the Primary server
(PR) located at the PR site and second server is the Disaster Recovery
(DR) server in DR site. Through the Hotbackup System, the DR server
receives constant data updates (Sybase and Naviscore feeds) from the
PR server, thus staying in 'hot' synch. Using Hotbackup's 'Activity
Switch' procedure, it takes only minutes for the DR server to take
over the work load of the PR server if such a need arises. This is
done completely seamless and transparent to the users and without any
loss of user or application data. To read more about this system
